Not So Frugal Breakfast Plan

My breakfast is pretty standard, cereal and milk. Now, you might ask what is frugal about that? I'll tell you... not much. It's not really the frugal choice, but it's the fast choice. With 4 kids to get out in the morning on my own, I don't have time. The kids can give themselves breakfast and clean it up independently. Also, by giving them cereal every morning for breakfast, I save other breakfast food for "breakfast for dinner" which they love.

  1. Have you tried giving them raw oats with milk as a quick, cheap alternative to breakfast cereal?

  2. I actually buy the cereal really cheap and they don't eat that much of it, so I haven't tried different things. They really love oatmeal and I save that for supper as a treat. Maybe I'll give it a shot in the future, thanks for the idea!

  3. I make a big batch of granola every Sunday and that's our cereal for the week. I found oats for 7 NIS a kilo at the shuk, so it's much cheaper than any cereal I've seen. I add in whatever nuts or dried fruit I have (dried fruit should be added after baking, otherwise they turn into rocks!)

  4. I'll have to try making granola some time. I find the breakfast something I just want to be fast and reasonable. Cereal is much more reasonable that a lot of other fast breakfast foods, and the kids don't eat much of it so I am okay with the slightly higher cost.
